Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Light Through the Storm

Price range: €299.00 through €1,699.00

Painted in acrylic and mixed media on canvas, this piece is built up layer by layer with brush and palette knife. Loose drips run through the surface, giving it depth and a real sense of movement.

This is a dark, atmospheric painting, and one of the most dramatic you’ve shared. The canvas is filled with stormy greys, deep green-blacks, and misty blue-grey, all blended softly so the forms feel like heavy cloud. A dark horizontal band crosses just below the middle and reads as a horizon or distant shoreline. Against all that darkness, gold breaks through. A bright patch of yellow and warm white glows in the upper centre, spills diagonally down to the right, and then reappears below the horizon as a broken reflection. The gold is thicker and rougher than the smooth greys around it, so it seems to sit forward and shine. The square format and the mirrored light give the painting a still, contemplative quality in spite of the storm. It looks like sunlight forcing its way through cloud over a lake or the sea, caught in the moment before the weather turns.

Acrylic on canvas worked with a palette knife or scraper rather than a brush. In the teal and yellow areas you can see the grid of the fabric, which means those colours were applied thinly or scraped back so the paint only sits in the texture of the weave. The white is thick, with raised ridges and veined, crackled edges. This comes from pressing heavy paint onto the surface with a flat tool and pulling it away or dragging it across. Colour went down first and white was dragged over it. The white skips across the high points and leaves colour showing through the gaps, which creates the broken, eroded pattern. The matte, chalky finish and crisp layered edges are typical of acrylic, which dries fast enough to stack layers without blending.

Your commissioned artwork will be professionally and securely packaged with the utmost care. To ensure safe transportation, the artwork will be carefully rolled and delivered in a durable, high-quality protective tube.
