Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Window to the Sea

This painting is more drawn than the others. Loose black lines, like charcoal, sketch out rounded rectangles, arcs, and curves, and colour is washed in and around them. The shapes look like windows, doorways, or rooms opening into one another, which gives the painting a sense of interior space. Blue dominates. A deep cobalt block sits at the centre, with darker navy on the left and pale, icy blue above and below. Soft yellow-green frames the top, a brighter yellow panel glows on the right, and turquoise runs along the upper edge and the bottom. The far right side is darker and scratchier, with black lines trailing down over grey and olive. The paint is thin and fluid here, brushed and smeared instead of built up thick, so the surface feels open and airy. White sweeps through the lower half in a wide curve, like light across a floor or water flowing past. It reads as a view through a window toward water, a harbour seen from inside, or a memory of a room by the sea.
