Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Summer Crossing

This painting is warm, bright, and full of dynamic angles. A soft golden yellow fills most of the canvas, blended with cream, white, and pale grey, like a sunlit haze. Across this glowing background, bold blocks of colour cut in at different angles. A strong diagonal band runs from the centre down toward the lower right, built from layered strokes of sky blue, cobalt, black, and coral red, like a beam, a ramp, or a road. On the left, a horizontal band of navy and black sits above a strip of bright sky blue, with small touches of white and purple. In the upper right, a vertical block of blue, violet, and dark navy rises toward the top edge. In the centre, a curved burst of coral and red-orange forms a loose circle, like a sun or a bloom, the warmest focal point of the painting. Smaller coral marks repeat in the upper left and along the diagonal band. Soft violet and lavender appear in the lower left and lower centre. The coloured blocks are laid on thickly with a palette knife, with crisp edges and visible ridges, while the yellow background is smoother and softly blended. This contrast makes the blocks seem to float. It reads as a city in golden sunlight, a bridge crossing a bright landscape, or the energy of a summer day.
