Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Autumn Blooms

Price range: €299.00 through €1,699.00

Painted in acrylic, oil, and mixed media on canvas, this piece is built up layer by layer with brush and palette knife. Loose drips run through the surface, adding depth and a real sense of movement, and the work is finished to a refined, gallery-quality standard.

This painting is warm, rich, and full of texture. Saffron, marigold, and golden ochre spread across the canvas, mixed with deep burgundy, magenta, and wine red, all set against a soft background of cream and white. The upper left corner is the densest area, a speckled mix of gold, brown, and dark chocolate with flecks of teal and pink. Through the centre, a column of white runs from top to bottom, keeping the composition open and light. On either side, patches of burgundy and magenta gather like blooms, especially in the middle and on the right. Gold and orange repeat in the right half and along the bottom, with rust red in the lower left. Small touches of pale aqua appear in the upper right and among the warmer colours, adding freshness to the palette. The paint is pressed on and pulled downward with a knife, leaving a dry, broken, speckled surface where every layer shows through the next. The vertical drag gives everything a gentle sense of falling, like petals or rain. It reads as a field of autumn flowers, marigolds and dahlias seen through mist, or festival colours scattered in the air. The warm palette also carries a feeling of India, which fits your story of memories blending with the Dutch landscape.

This painting is made with acrylic paint, built up in many layers on canvas. The early layers are acrylic. It dries quickly, which makes it possible to lay down colour, add texture, and keep building without waiting. These first layers set out the main shapes and colours of the composition. Different tools leave different marks. Loose, expressive brushstrokes give the painting its energy and direction. The palette knife is used to press thick paint onto the surface, scrape it back, and drag it across earlier layers, leaving ridges, broken edges, and places where the colour underneath shows through. In some areas the paint is thinned and allowed to drip and run down the canvas, adding a sense of movement that can’t be fully planned. Thin, translucent washes sit alongside thick, opaque paint. Where the washes are, light passes through to the layers below and the colour glows. Where the paint is thick, it catches the light and casts tiny shadows, so the surface changes as you move around it and as the light in the room shifts during the day. Together, these layers give the painting its depth, movement, and rich texture, and a finish that feels contemporary and alive.
