Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Morning Bloom

Price range: €299.00 through €1,699.00

Painted in acrylic, oil, and mixed media on canvas, this piece is built up layer by layer with brush and palette knife. Loose drips run through the surface, adding depth and a real sense of movement, and the work is finished to a refined, gallery-quality standard.

This painting is soft and luminous, with a jewel-like palette of golden yellow, violet, emerald green, mint, and white. The colours drift into one another in loose patches, as if seen through mist or water. Gold and ochre glow in the upper left and spread across the lower right, with warm apricot and honey tones around them. Violet and magenta appear in two places: across the top right corner and in a smaller patch just left of centre, where it glows brightly against the white. Deep emerald and forest green run in a horizontal band on the right side and through the lower left, giving the painting depth and shadow. Between these, soft mint and seafoam green spread across the centre right, and a band of white and cream runs through the middle like light on water or a patch of mist. The paint is thick and textured, pressed on with a knife so the surface is pitted and stippled throughout, catching light in small points. The colours are blended softly at their edges, which keeps the overall feeling dreamy and gentle. It reads as a garden pond with irises and lily pads, a wildflower meadow in morning light, or reflections of flowers on water.

This painting is made with acrylic paint, built up in many layers on canvas. The early layers are acrylic. It dries quickly, which makes it possible to lay down colour, add texture, and keep building without waiting. These first layers set out the main shapes and colours of the composition. Different tools leave different marks. Loose, expressive brushstrokes give the painting its energy and direction. The palette knife is used to press thick paint onto the surface, scrape it back, and drag it across earlier layers, leaving ridges, broken edges, and places where the colour underneath shows through. In some areas the paint is thinned and allowed to drip and run down the canvas, adding a sense of movement that can’t be fully planned. Thin, translucent washes sit alongside thick, opaque paint. Where the washes are, light passes through to the layers below and the colour glows. Where the paint is thick, it catches the light and casts tiny shadows, so the surface changes as you move around it and as the light in the room shifts during the day. Together, these layers give the painting its depth, movement, and rich texture, and a finish that feels contemporary and alive.
