Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Golden Stream

Price range: €299.00 through €1,699.00

Painted in acrylic, oil, and mixed media on canvas, this piece is built up layer by layer with brush and palette knife. Loose drips run through the surface, adding depth and a real sense of movement, and the work is finished to a refined, gallery-quality standard.

This painting is rich and layered, with a warm, golden glow and a strong vertical rhythm. Olive, mustard, and honey gold fill the right side and upper left, softening into a bright, hazy light in the upper right, like sun shining through. Through the upper centre, a tall stroke of thick white sweeps downward like a waterfall or a beam of light, with pale aqua, blush pink, and soft blue around it. Just below it, a small triangle of ochre sits in the dark, like a sail or a lit roof. The lower half is deeper and more complex. Dark navy, charcoal, and brown gather in the centre, cut by a strong vertical stripe of cobalt blue and olive green. On the left, burgundy, plum, and bright red run downward in streaks beside a pale white line. In the lower right, thick curls of white and cream are pressed into the dark like foam, petals, or crumpled paper, while the bottom right corner warms into rust and orange. The paint is very textured, laid on with a palette knife in thick, sculptural strokes, then dragged and scraped so earlier layers show through. You can see the canvas weave in the thinner areas. It reads as a forest stream in autumn light, a waterfall in golden woods, or an old harbour at sunset.

This painting is made with acrylic paint, built up in many layers on canvas. The early layers are acrylic. It dries quickly, which makes it possible to lay down colour, add texture, and keep building without waiting. These first layers set out the main shapes and colours of the composition. Different tools leave different marks. Loose, expressive brushstrokes give the painting its energy and direction. The palette knife is used to press thick paint onto the surface, scrape it back, and drag it across earlier layers, leaving ridges, broken edges, and places where the colour underneath shows through. In some areas the paint is thinned and allowed to drip and run down the canvas, adding a sense of movement that can’t be fully planned. Thin, translucent washes sit alongside thick, opaque paint. Where the washes are, light passes through to the layers below and the colour glows. Where the paint is thick, it catches the light and casts tiny shadows, so the surface changes as you move around it and as the light in the room shifts during the day. Together, these layers give the painting its depth, movement, and rich texture, and a finish that feels contemporary and alive.
