Contemporary Abstract Expressionism I Heart of the Galaxy

Price range: €299.00 through €1,699.00

Painted in acrylic, oil, and mixed media on canvas, this piece is built up layer by layer with brush and palette knife. Loose drips run through the surface, adding depth and a real sense of movement, and the work is finished to a refined, gallery-quality standard.

This painting looks like a nebula or a glowing cloud in deep space. A bright band of pale pink, cream, and white runs diagonally through the centre, like a burst of light or the heart of a galaxy. Around it, rich colour swirls in every direction. Coral, terracotta, and red-orange fill the upper centre and right, with patches of soft lilac and orchid purple drifting through. Bright cobalt and periwinkle blue appear in two areas: across the upper left and below the centre, spreading toward the bottom right. The edges are darker and moodier. Deep burgundy, wine red, and plum fill the left side and lower corners, and the bottom right fades into navy and indigo. A few patches of near-black in the lower left and upper right add depth, like shadows or dark gaps in space. The paint is pressed on and lifted to create a marbled, lacy texture, especially in the lighter areas, so the colours seem to bubble and drift like gas or cloud. The surface is rich and tactile, with small raised flecks catching the light. It reads as a cosmic nebula, a sunset seen through storm clouds, or coral and sea life seen from above.

This painting is made with acrylic paint, built up in many layers on canvas. The early layers are acrylic. It dries quickly, which makes it possible to lay down colour, add texture, and keep building without waiting. These first layers set out the main shapes and colours of the composition. Different tools leave different marks. Loose, expressive brushstrokes give the painting its energy and direction. The palette knife is used to press thick paint onto the surface, scrape it back, and drag it across earlier layers, leaving ridges, broken edges, and places where the colour underneath shows through. In some areas the paint is thinned and allowed to drip and run down the canvas, adding a sense of movement that can’t be fully planned. Thin, translucent washes sit alongside thick, opaque paint. Where the washes are, light passes through to the layers below and the colour glows. Where the paint is thick, it catches the light and casts tiny shadows, so the surface changes as you move around it and as the light in the room shifts during the day. Together, these layers give the painting its depth, movement, and rich texture, and a finish that feels contemporary and alive.
